Livret A rate: 1.5% — Updated 2026-02-01Everything about the Livret A
The Livret A is France's most popular savings account. Learn how to maximize your interest and understand how it works.
Why simulate your Livret A?
- Know exactly how much tax-free interest you'll earn
- Anticipate when the deposit ceiling will be reached
- Compare Livret A returns with other savings (LDDS, LEP, life insurance)
- Optimize your deposits to maximize fortnightly interest
How does the fortnightly calculation work?
Unlike standard compound interest, the Livret A calculates interest by fortnight (1st and 16th of each month). A deposit made on the 3rd only earns interest from the 16th. That's why it's best to deposit just before the 1st or 16th to avoid 'losing' a fortnight. Interest is capitalized once a year on December 31.
Tips to maximize your interest
Deposit preferably before the 1st or 16th of the month. Avoid mid-fortnight withdrawals: interest stops immediately. If your Livret A is full, consider the LDDS (same rate, €12,000 ceiling) or the LEP if you're eligible (higher rate).
